What is your experience working with children & young people?

I began volunteering with children & young people  with a range of disabilities and special educational needs as a teenager- this is where my passion for studying Occupational Therapy came from!  Before qualifying as an Occupational Therapist I worked as a Swimming Teacher and coached sports on children's holiday clubs, as well as working on international summer schools for young people learning English.  After qualifying as an Occupational Therapist and working on a stroke ward as a Rotational Occupational Therapist, I began working at an Autism Specialist School (where I found my real passion for creatively supporting children to thrive at school by supporting sensory needs!).  Since I have worked within Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) schools, a specialist mental health setting for Looked After Children and have worked as a part time Lecturer.  Alongside these roles I have worked as a self-employed Occupational Therapist, completing work for Local Authorities to meet needs of Education Health Care Plans (EHCP's).
