My name is Abbie and I am an Occupational Therapist.
I work with children & young people in schools and colleges.
My job as an Occupational Therapist is to help people do everyday activities that they may be finding difficult.
My mission is to help children & young people to play, learn & socialise!
I currently work self-employed (part time) to provide Local Authorities (LA's) with Occupational Therapy and Sensory Integration, to meet the needs of Education & Health Care Plans (EHCP's) where Occupational Therapy/ Sensory Integration is named.
I currently work part time within an Autism Specialist School, providing schools-based universal, targeted & specialist Occupational Therapy.
I have previously worked within an Autism Specialist School as an Occupational Therapist, providing schools-based universal, targeted and specialist Occupational Therapy (ages 5-19 years).
I have previously worked in Specialist SEMH Schools as an Occupational Therapist, providing schools-based universal, targeted and specialist Occupational Therapy (ages 7-19 years).
I have previously worked within a specialist residential mental health setting for Looked After Children and adolescents providing specialist Occupational Therapy (ages 13-19 years).
Upon qualifying as an Occupational Therapist I worked within a Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit.
I currently work part time as a Lecturer in Occupational Therapy, working on a BSc Occupational Therapy programme.
I have previously worked as a Lecturer Practitioner in Occupational Therapy, working on an MSc Occupational Therapy pre-reg programme.
I use simple signs where appropriate, alongside a range of: visuals/ pictures, choice boards & visual task breakdowns.
I have completed Level 1 in Makaton & am currently completing Level 1 in British Sign Language (BSL).
I have completed Safeguarding Level 1 and have a safeguarding & child protection policy statement and procedures.
I am extremely passionate about raising the profile of least restrictive practice and am a member of the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) with a pledge to support Restraint Reduction.
I remain updated with continued professional development, supervision & reflective practice, in line with Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) standards.
